Hair Transplant with DHI

The DHI technique is actually the name given to the method of planting using the Implanter/Special Choi pens after the grafts are collected with the FUE technique.

It is also known as the unshaven hair transplant method because in this transplant technique, you do not need to cut your hair in the area to be transplanted. It is one of the most important features that distinguishes this method from the Sapphire FUE method. Since the channel does not need to be opened, there is no need to inflate the planting area with physiological saline. Grafts are planted with implanter/choi needles without opening the canal. The ends of these needles are thin, cylindrical and sharp-edged. These needles are in the form of a channel and the hair to be transplanted is placed in the needle along this channel. Due to this tool used, the DHI technique is also known as the pencil technique and the Choi method.

How is the DHI method applied?

The grafts collected by the FUE method are placed into the choi pens one by one. In this placement, the assistants should be very careful not to damage the graft. Grafted pens are given to the doctor for planting to place these hair follicles in the area to be planted.

The doctor transplants these roots, which are placed in the Choi pen, at 35 - 45 degrees at the front of the head, at a slightly wider angle towards the back, but never at 90 degrees. Calculating the planting angles correctly will be so important to catch the natural looking.

Choi needles can be adjusted according to the length of the graft and in an average operation, 5 pencils and 10 choi needle tips are used.

Sapphire FUE or DHI method?

Sapphire FUE method is preferred if the area to be transplanted is large, that is, if more grafts are required, while DHI can be preferred for more sparse hair in transplantation and second operations.

The decision of which method to use in the operation is made with the patient. The methods are explained, the patient's demands are heard, the appropriate method is shared with the patient, and the operation is started with the patient's approval.
